Relive the unique and tragic voyage of the Titanic, 100 years on
This new exhibition area of 2,500 m² will be opened to the public in Spring 2012 at the Cité de La Mer.
TAKE A STEP BACK IN TIME
The first part will be installed in the areas that have up to now remained unused, including Cherbourg passenger terminal’s impressive baggage room. These spaces will present slides, films and archive photos which will allow visitors to relive the era: portraits of emigrants, the passengers’ luggage and trunks, .... a chance to follow the journey of emigrants leaving for the Americas: their arrival in Cherbourg, their hotels, life on board the liner and much more.
AN EXHIBITION DEDICATED TO THE CRUISE SHIP THE TITANIC
The second part of this new exhibition at the Museum of the Sea will be dedicated to the Titanic: the ship’s construction, working on board, life on the ship and, of course, its journey, the collision and the sinking; showing things from the crew’s point of view as well as the passengers’.
“This exhibition will be the only one in the world that looks at the biggest exodus in the history of Man. Dynamic walls will allow visitors to see the contents of emigrants’ luggage and get an insight into their lives. Visitors will be able to search for the information they want to find and follow the 281 passengers as they board the Titanic from Cherbourg.” explains Bernard Cauvin, President of La Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg.
